Magellan was initially approached by Jersey Post to create a business case to replace their Great Plains Finance system with a new, cloud-based, Microsoft Dynamics Business Central solution to meet the needs of the future.
The project represented a considerable change for the Finance Team, and it was Jersey Post’s major investment for 2022. Magellan were able to provide in-depth knowledge of the financial accounting function and was able to meet Jersey Post’s requirement to engage the skills of an experienced project manager. This engagement further enhanced their internal capability for change and provided a model for future project governance and controls.
The project required a change of approach for the Finance Team, moving to greater automation and the alignment of processes and policies with the enhanced capability of modern technology within a cloud-based solution.
Magellan worked with the Finance Team and their external technical supplier to develop the plan and business case for the delivery of the project. A new Chart of Accounts was defined and agreed with the Business, which enabled the build for the new solution and streamlined Jersey Post’s accounting processes. The project scope also accommodated the implementation of a new accounts payable system, which provided a much-needed solution to automate approval workflows, reduce manual processes and create efficiencies in payments to suppliers.
The Magellan team of Project Manager and Business Analyst provided a full suite of services, including liaising closely with stakeholders, reviewing and revising processes, planning and managing systems testing, training of key staff, communications, quality assurance, risk oversight and chairing project board meetings.
A further element of this implementation involved managing supplier engagement for both systems to ensure that stringent timelines were adhered to. Holding parties to task helped to ensure that all key elements were delivered and communicated as planned.
